Few people are onto great records as quickly as a great record store.
After years spent discovering gems in Phonica’s end of year lists, it made sense to give them a regular space on FACT. Every Saturday, staff from the Soho institution will pick out the five vinyl records you should grab this week.

‘A T.D.L.D Joint’

Chilean-born, Stockholm-based producer Omar Santis inaugurates the Karakul label with an EP of impeccably soulful, low-slung house. Every track is a stunner, from the melancholy ‘Lulu’s Jam’ with its twinkling Rhodes piano to the tropical dream of low-tempo closer ‘Inward.’

The brand new Akuba Records is on a mission to bring us “the best in deep, cosmic, soulful and funky African disco music”, which is fine by us if it continues in this wigged out vein. ‘He’s The Man’ offers red hot disco with dubby effects while ‘Kita-Kita’ slows the tempo for a gently tropical afrojazzy hummer.

L.I.E.S affiliate and LA Club Resource boss Delroy Edwards gets back to what he does best with a trio of straight-up house tracks made from 50% old school euphoria and 50% sandpapered rhythm machines. Joyously knackered-sounding.

A bonus sequel to the disco-house star’s P.A.R.T.Y. EP released back in April, this purple vinyl offers more of SDJ’s raw analogue heat, with a sparser version of ‘Celebrations’ and ‘P.A.R.T.Y.’ on one side and the chunkier ‘Fun’ and light-footed cut ‘Summers’ on the other. The titles say it all.
