Watch unseen footage of The Clash's 1977 New Year's gig at The Roxy

Historic and previously unseen footage of the British punk pioneers has surfaced.

Punk rock filmmaker Julian Temple, the brains behind The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle mockumentary and The Filth and The Fury, has shared 1977, a never-before-seen documentary built around The Clash’s New Year’s Day concert at infamous Covent Garden venue The Roxy.

The historic January 1 gig cemented both The Clash and The Roxy as prominent fixtures within the realms of punk, although the band would go on to last much longer than the venue.

Filmmaker John Temple interpolates previously unseen concert material with behind-the-scenes footage and clips of media broadcasts, riots and reggae to create a fascinating depiction of England in 1977.

You can watch all 75 minutes of the film below. [via CoS]
