KEXP DJ Alex Ruder reveals his latest signing.

The Seattle tastemaker has spent the last several years turning his Hush Hush imprint into a home for “headphone sessions, contemplative journeys, intimate encounters, late-night vibes,” and his latest signing certainly lives up to that billing.

MUTUAL, a mysterious duo from Portugal, makes meditative techno with heavy doses of soul samples and lo-fi haze. “We are two producers from different music styles, but we share the same vision,” they write, cryptically noting that “there’s an imaginary point of departure that could [have] the same hard feeling on a piece of ambient as well on a rough break.”

Their debut EP, A1017, is due out March 3 — stream lead cut ‘Surface Effects’ below.
