Kanye almost pulled another Kanye.

Beck got the shock of his life tonight when collecting his Grammy Award for Album Of The Year, awarded for last year’s Morning Phase LP.

As Beck walked on stage to accept his award, Kanye ran up the stairs to the microphone and pretended to interrupt the ‘Full Moon’ singer as Beyonce and Jay Z looked on in shock horror.

Making his first appearance at the Grammy Awards in six years, West was poking fun at his infamous 2009 interruption of Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Update: Kanye West says Beck’s Grammy belongs to Beyonce, tells him to “respect artistry”.

In an interview with E! News, West clarified his motivation for pretending to hijack Beck’s acceptance speech at tonight’s Grammy Awards.

“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more,” he said. “And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce.”

West continued to say he and other artists were “tired” of continually being disrespected by the Grammys.

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration,” he said. “And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyonce album and they feel like it takes them to another place.” [via The Hollywood Reporter]

Update 2: Beck has responded to Kanye’s comments, but refuses to hold any grudges

In an afterparty interview with Us Weekly, Beck has responded to Kanye’s comments, telling of his admiration for both Kanye and Beyoncé.

“I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody,” Beck said of his feelings when West came on stage. “How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”

Reacting to Kanye’s comment that Beyoncé should have won the award, he said “Absolutely,” adding, “I thought she was going to win. Come on, she’s Beyoncé!”

Despite Kanye’s call for Beck to “respect artistry,” he refuse to hold any grudges. “You can’t please everybody, man,” Beck said. “I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

Update 3: Kanye clarified his statements about Beck.

The paparazzi caught up with Kanye at the airport this morning. “Come on, man, I love Beck, but he ain’t have the album of the year,” he said, standing by his initial argument, “Beck knows that Beyoncé should’ve won… You know that.”
