Boys Own have announced a tribute record to Frankie Knuckles, the Chicago house icon who died last year, by Underworld and Heller & Farley.

The two acts have collaborated on a cover of Knuckles’ classic ‘Baby Wants to Ride’, and will be released digitally and on limited 12″. All proceeds go to the Frankie Knuckles Fund, a charity focused on HIV in Africa, African communities in the UK, and African American communities in the USA. It was launched by Defmix and the Elton John AIDS Foundation in March of last year.

“My relationship with Frankie goes back a long way”, says Terry Farley of Heller & Farley. “25 years ago, Frankie championed the early music Pete Heller and I made and many of the first releases on Junior Boys Own. He helped turn a group of suburban London music fans into DJs and producers who could travel the world, simply by his patronage.”

Underworld’s Rick Smith, meanwhile, says “As the creator of house music we owe Frankie a huge debt. Karl and I have always seen Frankie as the source and, as Underworld, we’re always swimming in his river.”
