Welcome to FACT’s newest feature: the weekly video round-up.

As we note at the end of every year, music videos have never been better. But too often, music videos — along with documentaries, live sets and interview clips — get lost in the shuffle of news and new music.

With that in mind, FACT is doing what it does for mixes, mixtapes, vinyl and more: rounding up the internet’s best videos on a weekly basis. And to remove our bias, we won’t be including our own content — you’ll have to stay tuned to FACT TV for all your Against The Clock, FACT Freestyle and Big Narstie needs.

‘Buried’
Dir: Lance Drake

David Lynch meets John Carpenter in the nightmarish video for Shlohmo’s ‘Buried’. The warm reds and purples of a seedy motel room — complete with white roses, prayer candles and television poltergeists — give way to a stalker’s-eye-view of a Girl In Distress. We won’t spoil the blood-soaked conclusion, but it reminded us of House of the Devil and Rosemary’s Baby.

‘Like Me’
Dir: Nathan R. Smith and Joey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$ goes to the same Golden Age well from which he pulls his retro rap tracks (this one features production from Dilla and The Roots) for his co-directed ‘Like Me’ video, updating hood flick tropes (the tragic mix of girls, guns and gangsters) for the Hands Up, Don’t Shoot age.

Parisian producer Rone — in cartoon form — falls asleep and awakens in his mind’s own galaxy, meeting the alien sprites that serve as the title to his third LP, Creatures. A beautiful sci-fi fantasy befitting the sweeping soundtrack, wonderfully animated by Hricovini from Liliwood’s illustrations.

Jungle
Dir: Karim Huu Do

The first of two surprises that Drake dropped on us this week, the 14-minute Jungle is Peak Drake. The home videos of The Rapper As A Young Man and footage of OVO on the road provide a personal touch, but the rest is an exercise in self-parody as Drake pensively drinks coffee, pensively looks out windows, pensively walks through smoke-filled clubs ad nauseam.

Murlo feat. Gemma Dunleavy
‘Jasmine’
Dir: Henry Degnin

The video for Murlo’s ‘Jasmine’ trades the song’s technicolor synths for a somber black-and-white clip that underscores the bittersweet qualities of his latest dance-pop anthem as our protagonist meditates and mourns her way though an empty city.

‘Hashtag’

One of the R&B artists to watch in 2015, Lyrica Anderson delivers ‘Hashtag’, a syrupy ballad that falls somewhere between Tinashe and Jhené Aiko songs. Amid the quick cuts and watercolor projections: strobe-lit shower scenes, balaclava-clad menace, rooftop routines and a slow-burning track.

For the ‘Offence’ vdieo, Gothenburg newcomer Tove Agelii remixes karate competition footage, turning solo demonstrations into a shadowboxing battle that has the same kinetic tension as the martial club track.

‘A Blizzard Of Flurries’

Brenon “Echologist” Moeller is next up in Styles Upon Styles’ Bangers And Ash series, and the spaced-out B-side provides an otherworldly soundtrack for an edited clip of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s legendary silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc.

Say what you will about A$AP Rocky, but his videos have always been a pitch-perfect accompaniment to his music. ‘Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2’ feels like a collage straight from the A$AP Tumblr: projection screens, live footage and soundstage work give the first chunk a DIY feel before the clip takes a trip to a twisted laundromat and ends with a tribute to A$AP Yams.
