The silver fox will return as police officer Rick Deckard.

Harrison Ford is set to reprise his lead role in Blade Runner for the long-awaited sequel to the 1982 dystopian sci-fi.

Ridley Scott will not be coming back to direct the latest version, but he has signed on as a producer. Alcon Entertainment is currently in negotiations with Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve to helm the feature.

Ford has already described the script for the second instalment as “the best thing I’ve ever read”, according to an interview with Scott from MTV last year. The action will take place several decades after the then-futuristic original, which was set in a grim, perpetually rainy Los Angeles in 2019.

If you’re thinking, ‘what does all this have to do with the weird electronic music I like?’ may we direct you to our Beginner’s Guide To Vangelis, the composer behind the original movie’s iconic soundtrack. Fingers crossed he’ll be signing on for the sequel’s score.

The Blade Runner OST also had a welcome vinyl reissue a couple of years back. [via Guardian]
