The Berlin club music collective’s latest is a bracing trip through polyrhythmic noise.

Berlin’s Janus imprint isn’t like other labels. It distributes its music via SoundCloud, and so far has put out its music in the form of mixtapes, one of which – Lotic’s Damsel In Distress – was one of our top albums of 2014. Capturing the chaotic nature of the occasional Janus club nights – which combine abstract techno, R&B, cybernetic bass and everything in between – the imprint was a worth addition to our list of labels to watch in 2015.

Janus has today released its third release, and it’s easily its most confounding so far. Bekelé Berhanu is a name new to us, but their music makes a logical addition to the Janus universe. The four-track, 30-minute mixtape comes mastered by Janus member M.E.S.H., and sounds like it could be equally at home on a Hospital Productions cassette. If you like noise, cavernous field recordings, African polyrhythms and pneumatic drills, then it’s highly recommended – stream or download below.

Tonight (March 6) Janus members M.E.S.H., Lotic and Kablam all play Jam City’s album launch party at London’s Corsica Studios – details on that here.
