Welcome to FACT’s newest feature: the weekly video round-up.

As we note at the end of every year, music videos have never been better. But too often, music videos — along with documentaries, live sets and interview clips — get lost in the shuffle of news and new music.

With that in mind, FACT is doing what it does for mixes, mixtapes, vinyl and more: rounding up the internet’s best videos on a weekly basis. And to remove our bias, we won’t be including our own content — you’ll have to stay tuned to FACT TV for all your Against The Clock, FACT Freestyle and Big Narstie needs.

Kelela
‘A Message’
Dir: Daniel Sannwald

The “rejection and amputation” that Kelela explores on ‘A Message’ comes to life in the absolutely stunning video by Daniel Sannwald. Kelela works the camera, her glistening skin, shorn locks and stuttering dance moves intimate and visceral. Then, she mutates into an anime-style cartoon, providing a more abstract vision of the union and disunion of relationships.

KeithCharles Spacebar
‘S.T.A.C.Y.’
Dir: Mike Ellwood

Awful Records jack-of-all-trades KeithCharles Spacebar shines on ‘S.T.A.C.Y.’, bringing Juvenilesque flows to chilled-out rap. For the video, Awful collaborator Mike Ellwood turns in possibly his best clip yet: as KCSB takes a girl on a date, the video game world bleeds over into reality like a modern take on Cool World, with elements of RPGs, Street Fighter and arcade shoot ’em ups coming to life.

The Very Best
‘Let Go’
Dir: Pappas Parlor

Afro-Western dance crew The Very Best return with ‘Let Go’, teaming with Pappas Parlor for a more direct homage to video games than KCSB’s offering. The 8-bit side-scroller has two levels, as explained by Johan Karlberg: “One level in Malawi where we run from street dogs and fight off Monsantos GMO monster maize plants, and one level in Sweden where we run from a fox and our enemies are the far right-wing political party.” For a collaboration that has never run from the political, it is spot-on.

Spinee
‘Hell Hound’
Dir: Sam Lyon

Closer to straight-up EDM than most PC Music, Spinee’s ‘Hell Hound’ does share the label’s unique approach to art: digital clay is molded into grotesque dogs and dog treats, providing neon nightmares and causing nose bleeds.

DONCHRISTIAN
‘Liu Kang’
Dir: Monster Movies

Camp & Street singer/rapper DONCHRISTIAN stays in the shadows and strobes, bringing together Mortal Kombat, the Baroque masterpieces of Caravaggio and vogue dance moves by collaborator and collective boss Le1f.

Jon Hopkins
‘I Remember’
Dir: Tadas Svilainis

A gentle piano cover of Yeasayer’s ‘I Remember’ is the only original track on Jon Hopkins’ Late Night Tales mix, and director Tadas Svilainis describes its video as a “a vessel for viewers’ imagination.” The abstract, underwater fabrics provide a soothing complement to Hopkins’ piano work.

D.R.A.M.
‘Cha Cha’
Dir: Nathan R. Smith and D.R.A.M.

D.R.A.M.’s ‘Cha Cha’ was one of the most fun rap tracks released in ages, but its September drop missed pool party season. Until spring finally shows up, watch how D.R.A.M throws a party, complete with 8-bit sprites that pair nicely with his Super Mario World samples.

8:58
‘The Clock’
Dir: Luke Losey

Ex-Orbital man Paul Hartnoll makes his debut as 8:58 with an assist by actor Cillian Murphy, who provides spoken-word vocals and stars in a video that sees a black-and-white existence — under the hand of a ubiquitous, oppressive clock — give way to a fancy dress dance party.

Tinashe
‘Bated Breath’
Dir: Stephen Garnett

After her low-budget, DIY video for ‘Aquarius’, Tinashe goes high-concept on ‘Bated Breath’, crash landing in a particularly Martian desert and sending a hopeless dispatch like a prayer.

Tennis Rodman
‘Hold Ya Bref’
Dir: Stephen Lindberg

Raleigh’s Tennis Rodman returns to the video round-up with ‘Hold Ya Bref’, showing off his purple swag with a warped approach to motion capture similar to KIT clip premiered by FACT TV this week.
