The Rhode Island duo return with Fantasy Empire.

As Lightning Bolt, Brian Chippendale and Brian Gibson have a legendary live reputation, playing down on the floor with audience members moshing around their ferocious combo of drums and bass. Though they’ve been active on the live circuit over the past few years, their last album was 2009’s Earthly Delights.

March 24 sees the release of their next album, Fantasy Empire. Coming via Chicago’s Thrill Jockey label, the album is a more accurate translation of the duo’s ferocious live show, making more use of live loops and moving away from the lo-fi methods that previously characterised their sound. If you can’t wait, then it’s currently streaming in full at NPR.
