The Fool’s Gold co-founder is the latest celeb to sign up on Genius.

Before launching Fool’s Gold and becoming a force in the EDM and rap worlds, A-Trak was the tour DJ for Kanye West, contributing to West’s first three albums.

The DJ-producer has shared some stories of his early work with Kanye on Genius, opening up in annotations on ‘Gold Digger’ and ‘Stronger’. On the later, A-Trak takes credit for giving Kanye the sample of Daft Punk’s ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’. “I gave him that sample. I’m the culprit. And I didn’t want him to sample it, that’s what’s funny,” he explains.

“It sort of happened because Swizz Beats sampled ‘Technologic’ for that Busta Rhymes record, ‘Touch It.’ We were on tour in Europe in 2006, spending a lot of hours on the bus listening to the radio. Kanye heard ‘Touch It’ and thought that beat was cool. I said, “He just swooped up Daft Punk.” And Ye said, “Who?” I just couldn’t believe that Kanye had never heard Daft Punk.”

Head to Genius for the rest of A-Trak’s annotations.
