Because the Tupac musical was such a great idea, right?

Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons will be taking hip-hop to Broadway, Rolling Stone reports. The show is in the earliest stages of development currently but Simmons revealed a few details.

Titled The Scenario, the show will tell the story of hip-hop’s early days. It will also be a jukebox musical (a show with popular licensed songs instead of original music), using classic hip-hop tracks to move the story along. Historian and author of The Big Payback, Don Charnas has been approached to write the show’s book, while Tony-winning producer Scott Prisand will come on as well. Prisand is best known for creating the musical Rock Of Ages, and from its structure that appears to be the direction they’re going here.

The Scenario is expected to be released in 2016. We’re just hoping it doesn’t end up like this classic Mr. Show sketch.
