The film unit of the BBC is backing a new documentary on Grace Jones.

The BBC’s film division is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and recently announced a series of projects marking its quarter century. Sophie Fiennes has been commissioned to direct Grace Jones: The Musical Of My Life. The film is reported to have been in the works for seven years, and is co-financed by the BFI Film Fund and the Irish Film Board.

The documentary is the first ever film on the former model who rose to fame as a singer in the 1980s, and is described as “a cinematic journey into the private and public worlds of Grace Jones, mixing intimate personal footage with unique staged musical sequences.”

Jones’ first three albums will also be remastered and reissued later this year in a box set entitled The Disco Years[via Billboard]
