One of South Australia’s finest underground venues is up for sale on Gumtree.

Online marketplace Gumtree might be best known as the place to go when its time to offload your unwanted sofa, but Adelaide club owner Driller Jet Armstrong is using the platform to sell his long-running Sugar nightclub. For the last thirteen years, Sugar has served as Adelaide’s go-to destination for quality house and techno. The venue has hosted the likes of Moodymann, Jeff Mills and DJ Harvey in the last few months alone. The future of the club is now uncertain, with the business now listed for sale at a “negotiable” price.

“Contrary to popular belief Sugar has not ever been ‘for sale’ in the 13 year history of the venue. Until today that is,” venue owner Armstrong wrote in a statement earlier this month. “Don’t be surprised to see the venue listed in the usual places visited by people looking to buy a business. We will continue to trade as normal in the meantime and look forward to your continued support.”

Armstrong had previously been critical of Adelaide’s 3am lockout laws, citing the restrictions as a reason for the club’s decline. “Because of a small minority of dickheads, everyone just out for fun and good times must suffer,” he said . “I simply want to do my own thing. It’s been 13 years. Maybe I will open a small bar… Whatever happens will be up to the new owners whoever they may be.”
