The Dutty Professor returns.

It is no secret that legendary stand-up comic Eddie Murphy occasionally moonlights as a reggae artiste. Back in 2013, Murphy teamed with Snoop Lion for an island-inspired collaboration entitled ‘Red Light’. Twenty years prior to that, Murphy enlisted dancehall icon Shabba Ranks for a collaboration called ‘I Was A King’.

Murphy has today returned with yet another reggae number, this one entitled ‘Oh Jah Jah’. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Murphy revealed that two major news events from 2014 inspired him to write the song.

“I wrote that track the first week that Ebola jumped off, and Ferguson was going on – it was pulled out of the headlines,” Murphy said. “To say this stuff, it has to be reggae. You can’t touch on none of this with an R&B track, because people will shut down to it. But do a roots reggae song that feels like Bob Marley type of stuff, you can say it.”

Murphy also hinted at the possibility of a forthcoming collaboration with Beenie Man. [via Rolling Stone]
