A documentary about trailblazing 70s punks The Slits is on the way.

The project started life five years ago when the band’s late singer, Ari Up, tasked her friend Jennifer Shagawat with turning the Slits’ story into a film. In the years since, Shagawat has been piecing together a documentary with director William E. Badgely, using tour footage, photographs and interviews with band members.

Notable contributors to Here To Be Heard: The Story of The Slits include musicians from the Raincoats, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Pop Group, Public Image Ltd and the Sex Pistols, plus their producer Dennis Bovell, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and DJ and filmmaker Don Letts.

The filmmakers now need to raise enough cash to complete the final round of editing and licensing, and they’ve set a target of $30,000 on Kickstarter. Supporters can get their hands on Slits T-shirts, tote bags, signed DVDs, signed drumsticks and even an executive producer credit – check out all the options and watch the trailer below.
