The celebrity couple have reportedly donated a lot of money to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Jay Z and Beyoncé have paid “tens of thousands” of dollars in bail money to help for protestors arrested in Baltimore and Ferguson, according to writer and activist Dream Hampton.

The revelations were given in a series of tweets from Hampton – since deleted – which were saved and reprinted by Complex. Hampton wrote that the Carters offered money within minutes when asked to help with bail for protestors in Ferguson and Baltimore, and had written a “huge check” to help support the Black Lives Matter movement that has sprung up in the wake of the death of Trayvon Martin in 2013.

Despite some directing criticism at the couple for their perceived silence on the race issues currently affecting the US, Hampton claims that they have offered money to “more stuff, too much too list, actually,” and that “they always insist folk keep quiet.”

Hampton later wrote that she deleted the tweets because Jay Z “would be pi-issed to see I was offering evidence” that he is actively involved in the campaign.

Last night Jay Z played the second of two exclusive concerts for Tidal subscribers. At the first, he wasted no time in telling his streaming rivals YouTube and Spotify what he thought of their business practices. [via Yahoo News]
