Hear the second volume of techno experiments from the Portland producer’s attic.

In 2013 Astro:Dynamics released Excavated Tapes 1992-1999 Vol. 1, a collection of early recordings by Portland-based Kevin Palmer – otherwise known as Best Available Technology.

Made with Palmer’s collection of second-hand samplers and effect units, these tracks sat gathering dust in Palmer’s attic until he achieved recognition on Opal Tapes in 2012 and he handed them to Astro:Dynamics. Despite being made 20 years previously, their abstract, lo-fi, dubby character had much in common with more recent tracks of a similar nature.

Next week Astro:Dynamics releases a second volume of Excavated Tapes. Streaming in full below, the 10 tracks are taken from the same period in Palmer’s career, moving through the mangled samples of ‘Mrg Shtdwn 02’ to the more delicate tones of ‘Side B Strng 01’.

Excavated Tapes 1992-1999 Vol. 2 is available on limited edition cassette and digital formats on June 1 – to pre-order a copy, visit the Astro:Dynamics store.
