The Bell Labs Digital Synthesizer, better known as the Alles Machine or Alice, was the first true digital additive synthesizer. In this video from 1977, inventor Hal Alles demos the synthesizer and keyboardist Roger Powell performs with the machine. Alles uploaded a copy of the video to YouTube this week — watch it below.
