The long-running Bristol festival will not go ahead this year.

Bristol’s annual St Paul’s Carnival has been cancelled this year due to “event management concerns,” Bristol 24/7 reports.

The street festival had originally been postponed until September, but organisers today (June 26) announced it has been replaced by a ticketed variety show and family fun day on September 5 at Malcolm X Community Centre, St Paul’s.

“There will be no large scale Carnival event this year,” said St Paul’s Afrikan Caribbean Carnival Ltd in a statement. “The organisation is working hard with funders and supporters to make sure we can deliver a successful Afrikan-Caribbean cultural celebration in Bristol for many years to come.”

“Funding is not the issue here,” said festival director Cleo Lake. “It is the management element of organising a massive, unticketed event on the street. We have tried to work with the right people but unfortunately it hasn’t worked for us this year.”

It is the third time the carnival has been cancelled in its 47-year history. [via Crack]
