Giovanni Napoli creates modular synth nightmares on his new EP as SOMEC and, like a particularly memorable one, it combines elements that shouldn’t go together in normal life.

Like the unassuming, slow-walking monster from the recent horror film It Follows, SOMEC’s abstract, industrial soundscapes move smoothly and calmly even as they generate looming dread. Tracks like the brittle ‘Incertezza’ and the wispy ‘Skan’ hint at danger and dreamy prettiness without ever fully solidifying as either. It doesn’t make for an easy listen, but it’s a captivating one. Listen below.
