Kendrick Lamar gave an insightful and personal interview to BBC 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs at the weekend.

The Compton kid reflected on growing up in “a hostile environment”, his childhood heroes, and the very first lyrics he wrote for a poetry assignment (he got an A). He also talked about his creative process and his admiration for collaborator Thundercat (“that’s the person I wanna go to for bass guitar lessons”).

Stream the full interview below and catch up with Kendrick’s mind-bogglingly good video for ‘Alright’ if you’ve not already seen it.
