Damon Albarn says he plans to start work on a new Gorillaz album in September.

The cartoon troupe’s fifth album has been delayed by Albarn’s myriad other commitments, he explained to Australian TV show ABC 7.30.

“I’m starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record,” he said. “I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance. I’d love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week.”

His collaborator Jamie Hewlett confirmed Gorillaz’s return back in January, but what with releasing a new Blur album and unveiling a musical inspired by Alice in Wonderland at the Manchester International Festival this year, Albarn obviously hasn’t got round to it yet.
