FKA twigs has spoken out about racist abuse directed at her and a fan who was suffering from cancer.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, the musician recalled replying to a fan who had tweeted a photo of himself with his unwell friend. Online trolls then subjected them to a barrage of abuse, including racist insults.

“Within 20 seconds it was just like ‘n****r, monkey, ugly, die bitch’, all this stuff on his feed,” said Twigs. “It broke my heart… This lady who is really sick and is probably going to die.”

Twigs added she had developed a “numbness” to the racist abuse she had received over her relationship to actor Robert Pattinson, adding: “I don’t understand what the levels [of fame] are. I’m a bit naive… I don’t engage in that world, even with myself, even with my own career.”

Her new single ‘Figure 8’ was unveiled on Beats Radio last week – stream it below from about 50 seconds in. [via Digital Spy]
