Soulines’ Kubrick DCX turntable is a homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It’s not everyday you see a turntable built in the image of one of cinema’s most iconic space stations. Taking inspiration from the “slowly revolving, three hundred-yard-diameter disk” of Space Station One in Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, Soulines’ Kubrick DCX also happens to be one of the most striking turntables we’ve seen in a while.

Supplementing their Hermes DCX model with a rigid aluminium plinth and sub-plinth based on none other than both the Golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequence for ultimate dampening, Soulines boast that although the Kubrick looks asymmetrical, it is in fact perfectly balanced.

The 14kg turntable utilizes an optimized DC motor to provide stable and smooth rotation of the acrylic platter, with playback also aided by the fact that the motor mounted on a separate plinth to the tonearm.

For more of the technical specs, head over the Soulines website, but in the mean time, just marvel at the incredible photos at The Vinyl Factory.
