‘Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang’ originally sampled Hall & Oates’ ‘I Can’t Go For That’

The 1992 classic started life as a breezy disco number.

A Dr. Dre collaborator has revealed that ‘Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang’ was originally rapped over a smooth-as-satin Hall & Oates hit.

Stones Throw producer Anderson.Paak, who contributed to several songs on Compton, told AllHipHop: “[Dre] told me they originally did ‘Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang’ to ‘I Can’t Go For That’. That uptempo, soul pop song. It was going to be this disco type song. They actually did a demo to it, and Snoop recorded that shit from jail.”

For whatever reason, that sample got ditched in favour of Leon Haywood’s ‘I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You’ – probably a good call, but there’s a demo floating around somewhere that we really want to hear.
