The Irish analogue obsessive has updated his 2001 ambient album.

Donnacha Costello has released a new version of his 2001 LP Together Is The New Alone. Entitled Together, the new album includes remastered, pitch-corrected and alternative takes from what is arguably his best-known record.

The original version of Together Is The New Alone arrived in 2001 through influential German experimental imprint Mille Plateaux. The largely ambient album introduced sweeping emotional melodies to the glitchy, clicks and cuts sound for which the label was renowned.

On the new full-length, Costello has unearthed alternative versions of ‘Your New God’, ‘That Empty Feeling’ and ‘Nothing, Still Nothing’. He also discovered that some tracks appeared on the original CD at the wrong pitch due to “careless mastering,” adding that the process and “heavy use of noise reduction… suppressed many details in reverb trails and delay lines,” according to Costello himself. Mastering of the new album was done by Stephan Mathieu, a sound artist who Costello says “has a special understanding for this music.”
