Big Narstie and Jungle head up Spotify’s move into original radio programming.

With Beats 1 proving something of a success for Apple Music, Spotify has decided to launch its own slate of original radio programming, In Residence.

Like much of the programming on Beats 1, Spotify has elected to get a line-up of musicians to helm the shows, which so far include XL Recordings act Jungle, outspoken grime artist Big Narstie (pictured above), Tonga (the duo that includes Mike Skinner) and The Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones.

Unlike Beats 1’s programming, which is broadcast on a timed schedule with repeats throughout the day, the In Residence shows take the form of a standard Spotify playlist with additional dialogue.

It’s currently unclear what Spotify’s plans are for the future of the series, though the playlist titles suggest they will be updated monthly. You can listen to the first selection of shows now at the In Residence profile.

In Residence is the latest in a series of additions to Spotify in the past year – in June the company revealed plans for video streaming, mood-based playlists and more. [via Music Ally]
