ABC will premiere the show in 2016.

Nicki Minaj is to executive produce a sitcom for ABC about her childhood growing up in Queens in the 1990s.

Taking to Instagram on Friday this week, Minaj revealed that Ariana Neal will play the rapper as a child on the show alongside Selita Ebanks and Wesley Jonathan as her parents. Whoopi Goldberg will feature as the family’s neighbour, Miss Martha. The rapper herself will also make guest appearances in a yet undefined role.

The show begins filming in Queens this month and will air later in 2016 as part of ABC’s Freeform series.

Speaking of Ariana Neal on Instagram, Minaj said she “cried watching her taped audition. I demanded to meet her. Sat in a room with her teaching her how to rap by doing a beat on the table & forcing her to stay on beat! Lol. Then pulled out all the attitude she had in her lil’ body. Haha! She’s tough! And so sweet and cute.” [Via Rolling Stone]
