Fantom is described as a “sensory remixer”.

Massive Attack have released their first new music since 2011 as part of an iPhone app called Fantom, co-developed by Robert Del Naja.

The “sensory remixer” lets you create your own versions of the duo’s sounds, with the app taking into account variables like movement, time of day or night, location and what your phone’s camera can see.

There’s also an Apple Watch version of the app that varies the song’s rhythm and harmony based on your heartbeat. According to the Fantom website, “live social media notifications sent via a Twitter feed will also trigger interesting sets of mix events.”

You can download Fantom from the App Store, but it’s only compatible with iPhone 5s or above.

Last year Massive Attack announced they would be touring in 2016, with new music to follow – though it’s currently unclear if Fantom is the music they were referring to.
