Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe returns with a new 12″ for Demdike Stare’s DDS imprint.

His first solo record in four years, Cognition / Observation finds Lowe exploring similar spaces as on 2012’s Timon Irnok Manta, an album we deemed one of that year’s best.

Lowe has hardly been napping in the interim period however, last year’s collaboration with Ariel Kalma – We Know Each Other Somehow – was an exemplary addition to his catalogue, and anyone who’s poked their head into Brooklyn modular synthesizer outpost Control will have noticed him hawking the finest modules available. But it’s a treat to hear Lowe experimenting with rhythm once more, continuing where Timon Irnok Manta left off.

Cognition / Observation fuses West African drum patterns with the smudged sound of Chain Reaction, and Lowe lends a hazy abstraction that should appeal to any fans of his previous project Lichens.

You can hear a snippet of ‘Observation (Sophrons)’ below, and the 12″ will be released on January 21 via DDS.
