In 2014, Justin Meyers got very, very sick.

The experimental composer describes some of the experience (and the eventual life saving surgery) in the liner notes for his new album Negative Space (1981–2014) — the dates implying how close he came to death. Though Meyers spent over a decade making music and releasing work by noise essentials like Burning Star Core, Helm and Yellow Swans on his Tone Filth label, in recovery he found himself forced to find ways to produce music in line with new physical restrictions.

The result is Negative Space‘s fascinating sonic journey. From unsettling breaths of the two-part ‘Inhaler’ to the alternately peaces and choked ‘Exit Interview’, Meyers transcends the limited set-up he’s forced to work with. Listen to it below and grab the album starting today via Bandcamp.
