Including his performance at last night’s Grammys.

In an interview with 2 Dope Boyz, Kendrick Lamar explained that the reason he using television as an opportunity to play unreleased and untitled material is because he is sitting on work he’s fond of that ultimately couldn’t land on an album tracklist. From the interview:

“You see all these performances on these late night shows…I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album. But I think probably close to ten songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut.”

Over the weekend, Kanye West mentioned that he has “40 tracks” featuring Kendrick that he’s going to unveil via Tidal and G.O.O.D. Friday.
