New Kendrick Lamar release rumoured for 2016 after TDE Instagram teaser
The rapper recently revealed he has a “chamber” of unreleased music.
New Kendrick Lamar music could be coming soon, after an Instagram post by Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony Tiffith hinted at a 2016 follow-up to the Compton rapper’s To Pimp A Butterfly.
On a TDE schedule for the year, posted last night with the caption “shit about to get nasty real soon”, Lamar’s name (“K Dot”) is shown alongside Schoolboy Q, SZA, Isaiah Rashad, and Ab-Soul in a whiteboard list of artists with new releases in the works.
Each artist’s name is accompanied by a current status report (“sample clearance,” “mixing,” “4th stage creative”). Next to Lamar’s name, it says, “??? (get Top on the phone).”
The Grammy-winning To Pimp A Butterfly was released last March. Since then, Lamar has debuted snippets of new tracks in live TV performances. “I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album,” he explained after playing part of an unheard song at the Grammys last month. “But I think probably close to ten songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut.”
Also teased for next year on TDE in the post is “BH” – thought to stand for Black Hippy, Lamar’s collaborative project with Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q.
