Los Angeles producer continues city’s jazz renaissance.

Terrace Martin, one of the key sonic architects behind Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly (and its recent follow up, untitled. unmastered), will release his next studio album in April.

Titled Velvet Portraits, the album continues the ongoing celebration and renaissance of Los Angeles’ jazz scene, which Martin has been a part of since birth alongside the likes of Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner and Kamasi Washington.

The album features many of the musicians that have surrounded Martin for years, some of whom appeared on Lamar’s TPAB. The latest track to be unveiled from the project is ‘Think Of You’, featuring Kamasi Washington, Martin’s dad on drums, Rose Gold, Chris Cadenhead, Marlon Williams, and Brandon Eugene Owens.

Velvet Portraits is available to pre-order on iTunes, and will be released on April 1.

Kamasi Washington will make an appearance at Red Bull’s forthcoming NYC festival, billed alongside Pharaoh Sanders and the Sun Ra Arkestra. Earlier this week, Washington and his band performed a series of versions from his acclaimed debut The Epic for Paste Magazine.
