“I hope for as long as I physically can I will continue to play music to you all as much and as regularly as possible.”

Chicago DJ and producer Roy Davis Jr. has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and cancelled all April gigs.

Davis Jr. announced the diagnosis in a post on Facebook, explaining that he underwent tests and scans after finding himself unable to walk at his home in Chicago last week.

“I will be spending the next few weeks in and out of hospital getting back to walking with the help of my incredible doctors and various medications, I will then spend the following weeks at home recovering, not touring and with any luck going into remission.

“My April shows have either been rescheduled or sadly cancelled.

“I hope for as long as I physically can I will continue to play music to you all as much and as regularly as possible, and continue to give you the music that lets us break free from the shackles of life’s pain, bring us all closer together and sparks our souls,” he wrote.

Best known for producing the classic house track ‘Gabriel’ with Peven Everett, Davis Jr. spent a period in acid house group Phuture at the start of his career as a replacement for DJ Pierre.

Davis Jr. has produced and performed consistently since the ’90s, with his most recent album, Destroy and Rebuild, landing in 2014.
