The Chicagoan of the year also confirmed that his Chance3 mixtape is coming out next Friday (May 13).

Chance The Rapper performed a new track on Thursday’s edition of The Tonight Show.

Backed by band member Donnie Trumpet and a gospel choir, the Chicago rapper debuted ‘Blessings’, off his Chance3 mixtape. He confirmed the release of the mixtape last night after hinting on Monday that new music was on its way.

Chance3 is Chance The Rapper’s third album, after kickstarting his career in 2013 with breakthrough release Acid Rap. He followed this up with Surf in 2015, an album by the band Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment of which he is a member.

Elsewhere, Chance has featured on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo and collaborated with Skrillex, Jeremih, and Lil B.

In the past few years, Chance has also been an active voice for the Chicago community by taking part in protests, raising money for homeless people, and denouncing what he views as exploitation of his city’s plight.

At the end of 2015, Chicago Magazine recognised Chance as the Chicagoan of the year.
