Rapper refuses to apologise following yesterday’s rants.

Azealia Banks has issued a statement after firing off a series of offensive comments on Twitter yesterday (May 11), which led to her removal from her headline slot at London’s Rinse | Born & Bred Festival.

“I said what I said to Zayn because I was angry,” she wrote last night, after aiming racist and homophobic slurs at the singer on Tuesday. “I had to remind him that we were both in the same boat in this industry and people of colour.”

In response to the insults directed at 14-year-old Disney star Skai Jackson, she said that she believes she was in fact talking to Jackson’s mother, not the teenager herself: “She’s a little girl. You must teach your kids to stay in childrens’ places because people are crazy.” In both instances, Banks refuses to apologise. See the statement below.

Yesterday, the ‘212’ singer also turned her attentions to the UK rap community, claiming that “the UK really can’t rap though” and calling the British scene “a disgrace to rap culture in general.” Novelist, NoLay, Flowdan and other grime MCs fought back with an arsenal of combative tweets, but they have yet to receive an apology.
