Penguin Cafe Orchestra meets Joanna Newsom.

Willow Smith has debuted a new musique concrète-esque track ‘twentyfortyeight 2.0’, produced by Arrested Development actor Michael Cera.

A far cry from Whip My Hair, the track sees the singer speak-sing floaty couplets of prose over gentle oscillating harmonies. Listen below.

This new song follows the release of Smith’s debut album Ardipithecus last year.

Cera himself is no stranger to the world of music making. In 2014, the indie actor – known best for his roles in coming-of-age favourites Superbad and Juno – released a Bandcamp album of lo-fi indie, called true that. He has also played guitar and performed backing vocals on Weezer’s Hurley LP in 2010.
