No “fonky-fonky blue cheese,” please.

Ahead of what would have been Prince’s 58th birthday tomorrow, PETA has re-released the pro-vegan song he wrote to support the animal rights charity.

‘Animal Kingdom’, written for Peta’s 20th anniversary in 1999, features dolphin calls and the lyrics: “No member of the animal kingdom ever did a thing to me / It’s why I don’t eat red meat or white fish / Don’t give me no blue cheese / We’re all members of the animal kingdom / Leave your brothers and sisters in the sea.” Of course, being Prince, he somehow manages to make a line about blue cheese sound cool as fuck. Stream it on Peta’s website.

Despite the fact Prince didn’t celebrate birthdays due to his religious beliefs, his ex-wife Mayte Garcia has said that PETA will mark his birthday every year by encouraging fans to go vegan for a day, as the Guardian reports.

“Prince didn’t want to celebrate birthdays, but to live life, to elevate and educate to the next level of enlightenment,” said Garcia. “My mission every 7 June is not only to celebrate his birth, but also with Peta to remember this man by making 7 June a day where Prince fans go vegan to see how much better they feel and to honour his kind legacy.”

Last week an autopsy confirmed that Prince died from an accidental overdose of the prescription painkiller fentanyl. A public memorial service is set to take place in August.

In April we asked Prince superfans D∆WN, Araabmuzik, Seven Davis Jr. and more what the purple one meant to them.
