Pure essence of lad.

The video for Shaun Ryder’s unofficial Euro 2016 song has dropped. And it’s like the new millennium never happened.

Riding high on a ‘90s piano house tip, ‘We Are England’ features cameos from some of British music’s finest lads: Paul Oakenfold, Goldie, Bez and Irvine Welsh. It was shot in London, Manchester, Los Angeles, Thailand and at Alan McGee’s home in Wales.

The Happy Mondays frontman says he hopes the song and the video – released under the Four Lions moniker – will send out “a positive vibe” to England fans and “put a smile on their faces.”

He adds that he made it for “the real heroes of our country, the working men and women of England.”

The single comes out this Friday (June 10) to coincide with the first match of the tournament.
