The band covered ‘Johnny B. Goode’ and ‘Earth Angel’ in New Jersey.

This weekend, Coldplay performed at New Jersey‘s MetLife Stadium where they invited Michael J. Fox to perform with them on stage. The tribute was inspired by a short video message from frontman Chris Martin’s son Moses asking his father to cover a song from their “favorite movie” Back To The Future.

“Well, if your son asks you to do something…,” Martin said, before starting The Penguins’ ‘Earth Angel,’ one of the songs Fox’s character Marty McFly performed in the film’s iconic Enchantment Under the Sea dance. Not long after, Martin introduced the actor on stage.

True to the plot of the movie, the band followed it with Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode’ (unfortunately, Fox didn’t break into a Van Halen-esque guitar solo). Afterwards Martin thanked Fox, calling it “our dream come true”.
