The beloved club will return to its original location.

Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club has announced that its future as a venue is safe after a forced auction of the property was thwarted.

The tiny club has been subject to an ongoing legal battle between the venue’s two owners, Wolf Richter and Rocko Schamoni. Earlier this year it was almost destroyed in a suspected arson attack, and the club has been closed since.

In a statement posted on the Pudel’s website, representatives from the club said: “The piece of this earth that is intertwined with us, namely St. Pauli Fischmarkt No. 27, has been snatched away from the burning claws of the forced auction that has been threatening us for a long while.

“Together with the Mara & Holger Cassens foundation, Wolf Richter’s shares in the property have been acquired. The property can now be used for public cultural benefit. Consequently, the Club is now protected from the adversities of the capital market and can once again and continiously be used for counter-cultural experiments and the developing of our social idea.”

It’s not yet clear when the Pudel will be reopening, but a benefit party for the club featuring Ron Morelli, Phuong-Dan, Alessandro Adriani, Cindy Looper and FACT mix illustrator Alex Solman takes place at Hamburg’s Uebel & Gefahrlich club on July 23.
