Put on those rose-tinted glasses and take a trip back to the age of plaid.

Animal Collective dropped a “weird ‘90s mix” during their takeover on Portland radio station XRAY.FM last night (July 20).

The mix compiles a genre-spanning selection of some of the era’s best off-kilter indie, from Pavement’s ‘Fight This Generation’ and Sun City Girls’ ‘Omani Red Light’ to tracks by Silver Jews, Royal Trux and Neil Hamburger. You can hear the mix (around the 30-minute mark) below.

Back in May, Animal Collective put their inimitable stamp on Bob Dylan’s ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright’, while that same month releasing a pair of live albums to protest against North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ law.

The Baltimore band released their latest studio album, Painting With, in February.
