Nas is “a huge creative force” on the show.

The trailer for the Baz Luhrmann-directed series about the early days of hip-hop, The Get Down, has landed.

Set during the late ‘70s when New York was on the brink of bankruptcy, the “mythic saga” documents the rise of hip-hop via “a ragtag crew” of teenagers growing up in the South Bronx. The show stars Jaden Smith, with Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Shameik Moore, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito among the cast members.

Nas serves as executive producer and is a “huge creative force” on the show, having also worked on the soundtrack, while Grandmaster Flash is associate producer.

Part one of The Get Down comprises six episodes, with the first episode premiering on Netflix on Friday August 12.
