May I have your attention please?

2016’s political circus has nothing on the events of 2004. Long before Donald Trump set his own campaign trail in motion, the businessman appeared at a mock-convention to endorse Eminem for President.

The Shady National Convention was organised by MTV to celebrate the debut of the rapper’s satellite radio channel, Shade 45, and featured a live performance from Eminem, along with appearances and endorsements from cabinet members Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. Shady’s campaign manager was Ludacris and the unofficial mayor of NYC was P. Diddy.

During the convention, Trump was introduced as “the man most likely to post Eminem’s bail” and labelled “Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Cash.” Then, echoing his own speech some 12 years later, he proceeded to give a speech outlining Eminem as “a winner” who is “always right.”

“He’s got brains, he’s got guts, and he’s got Donald Trump’s vote. Ladies and gentlemen, our great candidate, Slim Shady!”

Watch a full video of Trump’s ‘nominating speech’ below and then remind yourself that it was all just one big joke with this freestyle from Eminem calling out Trump.
