Glass Eyes.

Rare Victorian-style portraits of Radiohead will go on display at a new photography exhibition in London.

Music photographer Sebastian Edge, who took the official press shots for the band’s The King of Limbs LP in 2011, will exhibit his glass-printed shots at Metropolis Studios in west London from October 13.

Edge specialises in the 19th century Wet Plate Collodion process, which uses sheets of glass instead of traditional camera film to present the images, shooting them on a camera built from hand-made ‘Hurricane’ timber.

Speaking to The Line of Best Fit yesterday (August 10), Edge says he received a call from Radiohead HQ in 2011 after they’d heard about his specialism. He spent a day in the woods and a day at the band’s studio processing the photographs. “Colin loved it, being a photographer himself. And after a while I think they realised these weren’t just photos, they are works of handcrafted art and as analogue and as hands on as it could possibly get!”

A portion of the funds raised from the exhibition will go to support Proactiva Open Arms, an NGO from Badalona (a city in Catalonia) dedicated to saving lives at sea, having most recently helped refugees arriving on the Greek coast.
