No injuries were reported.

A campsite was evacuated at the BoomTown Fair Festival in Hampshire this weekend after a fire in the car park destroyed 80 vehicles. The 24-stage festival includes a ‘rave yard’, which this year featured the likes of Billy Daniel Bunter.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Police have launched an investigation into the blaze, which started shortly before 4.15pm on Friday (August 12).

Festival representative Adrian Coombs told BBC Hampshire yesterday that they would help people identify their cars and assist with travel arrangements. He said their first priority was to help people get home. “What Boomtown is doing at the moment is making sure that we help anyone who’s affected.

“So we’re laying on internet access, phone lines, making sure owners can contact their insurance companies and facilitating people’s transport home when the festival finishes.”

The four-day festival, which hosted performances from the likes of Leftfield and Madness, saw around 60,000 people flock to the Winchester area.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
