Gibbs was formally charged with sexual assault on August 17.

Freddie Gibbs has been released on bail in Austria, the country he was extradited to on charges of sexual assault.

“We believe this is the first step toward his eventual exoneration and vindication,” said Theodore Simon, one of Gibbs’ attorneys. “We are pleased and thankful that the Court recognized the same trust and confidence we have in Freddie that justified his release. Immediately after his release I spoke with Freddie who expressed his heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the overwhelming outpouring of support he has received.”

Yesterday, Gibbs was formally charged yesterday with sexual assault after being arrested in France in June for accusations of drugging and rapping a woman in 2015.

After being held in prison in France (and later released on bail) Gibbs was extradited to Austria earlier this month where he will remain until his trial.
