Editions Mego has detailed the next album from Australian experimental artist Oren Ambarchi, which includes Ricardo Villalobos and Jim O’Rourke.

According to the label, Hubris continues the exploration of driving rhythms seen on 2012’s Sagittarian Domain and 2014’s Quixotism. While those albums looked to krautrock and techno, Hubris takes disco and new wave as a starting point.

Villalobos is credited as providing “electronic rhythms” to the album’s third track while Jim O’Rourke adds “lush guitar synth.” Other contributors include Mark Fell, modular synth expert Keith Fullerton Whitman, Arto Lindsay, Will Guthrie and Crys Cole.

Released on November 11, Hubris features just three tracks, and is reportedly inspired by Ambarchi’s love of Wang Chung’s soundtrack to William Friedkin’s 1985 thriller To Live and Die in L.A.

Ambarchi has a long history of collaboration, having worked extensively with O’Rourke as well as Stephen O’Malley and Keiji Haino in the past.

Last year PAN released two live versions of Ambarchi’s ‘Knots’ on vinyl.
